Micro-Components to Integrated Systems Inspired by NASA’s historic Sojourner Mars Rover, the BreadBot Crawler is a hands-on engineering platform designed to transform curiosity into innovation.
Built on a precision laser-cut wooden chassis, BreadBot introduces engineers of all ages to the foundations of robotics, circuitry, electronics, and mechanical systems through immersive, project-based learning. Assembling the rover becomes part of the educational journey itself, where every wire, component, and connection teaches a deeper understanding of how real-world technology works.
Using reusable breadboards, tactile button controls, LEDs, resistors, transistors, diodes, motors, and the DRV8833 motor driver, builders create and control a fully functional crawler while exploring the science behind modern electronic systems.
Learn Engineering Through Exploration
BreadBot is designed by educators to provide deeper, meaningful STEM learning through hands-on application and discovery. Engineers don’t simply follow instructions. They experiment, troubleshoot, test, iterate, and innovate.
Core learning concepts include:
Breadboard circuitry and circuit design
Electrical polarity and current flow
Electromagnetism and motor systems
H-Bridge logic and directional motor control
Resistance, voltage, and signal pathways
Inputs, outputs, and system logic
Fault detection and troubleshooting
Mechanical assembly and engineering design
Foundations of robotics and control systems
The history and engineering of NASA’s Sojourner Rover
As the first skillset in The Stemiverse Planetary Exploration Collection, BreadBot serves as the foundational precursor to advanced circuit modules, wireless communications, microcontrollers, sensors, and integrated robotic systems introduced in later stages of the collection. Engineers first master the fundamentals of circuitry and logic before progressing into more advanced intelligent systems, mirroring the same layered engineering principles used in real-world robotics and aerospace development.
BreadBot encourages engineers to think critically, solve problems creatively, and understand technology at a systems level. The platform is intentionally designed to grow with the builder, allowing components and ideas to evolve into endless future innovations beyond the original rover itself.
Perfect for:
BOCES and STEM programs
Schools and educational labs
Parents seeking meaningful hands-on learning
Youth makers and future engineers
Adult hobbyists and robotics enthusiasts
Makerspaces, camps, and engineering workshops
More than a kit, BreadBot Crawler is a launchpad into robotics, electronics, engineering, and innovation through exploration, creativity, and hands-on discovery.
